Silence sur trame mouvante

Silence sur trame mouvante ( 2015 )

Photo series, ink jet printing under acrylic accompanied by a text, ed 3, 65 x 95 cm / each. With documentation of exhibition in the Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal.

The project is realized within the exhibition John Rea • musique vue at the Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges in Montreal, curated by Élisabeth Dupond and Julianna Joos. Twenty-two artists from diverse backgrounds together exhibit works inspired by music of Montreal composer John Rea, that bridge between two spheres of contemporary art — music and visual art. The event that pays tribute to the composer is initiated by the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec.

Are there any pre-existing artistic links between the music of a composer and visual work of an artist of the same period? Which links could be created by welcoming and listening to sound material in the place of the creation of that artist?

After listening several times La raison des forces mouvantes of John Rea, the bus shelters, one of my favorite places for creation, seem to me a potential venue for this creative meeting, a transition space past-present, visual-musical. Revisiting the bus shelters where I was, with the same framing, I captured the transformation by the passage of time, traffic light reflections and intervention with my breaths. The transparency of the visual elements and the variation through repetitive actions contribute to resonate with the work of John Rea.

Accompanying text: according to the concept of the exhibition, a text is displayed next to each work to explain the links related to the music of John Rea. My text ( in French, see below) partially reveals the creative process with descriptions of the elements perceptible by sight and hearing:
